High School Chihuly Sculpture

If you've read the previous post on the elementary sculpture art lesson than you know that I'm a big Dale Chihuly fan. The first day I was hired for the job, I asked the previous substitute what she had done previously with the sculpture class. When she told me that the class had watched a video on Dale Chihuly the Hallelujah chorus sang. We hit the ground running with a classroom installation project: create a Dale Chihuly inspired sculpture.

With so many amazing glass sculptures to choose from, this one stood out:

(Yea... I guess that is a little impressive...!)

Many rough individual designs, painted, melted and spiral cut water bottles, and two extra days of planning and construction later, a masterpiece was born! (At least, I think so!)

With a smile on her face, a team member continues the endless process of adding paper clips and fishing line to later adhere the bottles to the frame.

Our Sculpture class exhibited a lot of great problem solving techniques, teamwork, and creativity during this process. Adding the lights inside: their genius idea.

I loved seeing everyone's personal roles as a team player manifest themselves, and more than that, I love getting to look at this beautiful installation everyday! And to think all of these materials started in a recycling bin!
