Hi there!
We are so excited to welcome you to the SVLA Art room, and hope you enjoy the many fun, exciting, and informational activities we have to share this year!
Now, if you are going to be hanging around this classroom, there's a few things you'll need to know first:
1. You don't fail until you stop trying! We believe that practice makes perfect, and that it is through our accidents and uh oh's that we learn best.
2. Every artist is different! Your artwork doesn't look like your neighbors? GOOD! You have your own artistic style and abilities, and we like that we are all different!
3. No ideas are bad ideas! We thrive on creativity, so if you have an idea, share it!
A little bit about the lessons:
Something that you will notice about all of our lessons are that they are designed around a specific element of art. There are 7 elements total that are manipulated in all visually appealing and famous works of art. As we learn to use them, we increase our abilities to create beautiful artwork both aesthetically and technically!
In addition to this, I try to implement other variables that apply to our projects in order to enhance learning, and make the lessons more memorable! This might include music, books, writing, or history -along with some occasional costumes, role playing, and imaginative play :)
You will notice that your students may not be bringing art projects home every week. This is because the students are keeping most of their artwork in a portfolio called an "Art folder". In this folder students keep a written record of their projects and what was learned, in addition to an artwork reflection/evaluation done every 5 lessons. I know the anticipation is killing you, but by keeping the artwork in the classroom I can show off, display, and analyze your students artwork whenever needed. Twice a year students will take their portfolios and artwork home!
We look forward to taking you through this year of learning, discovery, experimentation, and fun!
Thanks for stopping by!
